Our Participation in Enhancing Your Music Experience
Some speakers impress. Others disappear.
The Kii SEVEN does something rarer — it gets out of the way entirely.
In a recent Qobuz review, it’s described as “staggeringly detailed, agile, and convincing” — but what that really means is this:
You’re no longer listening to speakers.
You’re inside the music.
Every layer feels exposed. Every nuance arrives intact. Nothing added, nothing exaggerated — just a level of clarity and control that makes even familiar tracks feel newly discovered.
It’s not about volume.
It’s not about hype.
It’s about truth.
And somehow, despite all that performance, it still manages to feel like a system you can actually live with — not just admire.
The future of listening isn’t coming.
It’s already here.
The Verdict
Forbes has recognized Kii Audio’s latest advancement with coverage of a major upgrade to the Kii SEVEN active speakers. The article highlights Kii’s continued commitment to innovation, with new DSP/firmware enhancements designed to expand performance, flexibility, and long-term value for listeners who expect more from modern loudspeaker design. It’s encouraging to see Kii’s engineering-first approach receiving this level of attention as the Kii SEVEN continues to push the standard for what active speakers can achieve.
Hardware Product of the Year 2025: Kii SEVEN by Fender Studio
Key takeaways from the article:
• The author describes moving from Kii THREE to Kii SEVEN after an in-person A/B comparison at Kii’s HQ in Germany.
• At typical low monitoring levels, they report the Kii SEVEN sounding very close to the Kii THREE, including wide tweeter dispersion.
• The major practical advantages cited: smaller/stand-friendly setup and roughly half the price of the Kii THREE, with strong real-world mix translation.
• They note there is no extension / upgrade path (unlike Kii THREE + BXT), but that tradeoff did not matter for their use.
“To my mind, you get about 90% of the sound for 50% of the price! I was sold.”
“The reason I always loved the Kii Three monitors is because of their translation to the outside world.”
“That record continues with the Kii Sevens, which makes them worth their weight in gold…”
Hopefully you know what you’re getting into in an article about the smart active Kii SEVEN:
The compact active monitor makes different things so fundamentally different and better that we can’t get around an introductory trip into the world of acoustic principles. Let’s get started right away…
Kii SEVEN: Compact, cardioid, and completely addictive.
HiFi Pig praises the Kii SEVEN for delivering big, precise sound from a truly compact, room-friendly design, crediting its cardioid “Active Wave Focusing” and DSP for clarity, control, and punchy bass nearly anywhere you place them. The reviewer found the speakers exceptionally engaging at moderate-to-high volumes and was surprised to prefer the wireless mode sonically, while noting Roon is best via Kii Link. Verdict: clean, accurate, and adaptable enough to earn their highest award—and a future spot in the reviewer’s own home.
The Kii Audio SEVEN is a compact, high-performance wireless music system and studio monitor with advanced cardioid dispersion technology, delivering exceptional sound quality for both home entertainment and professional audio
production.
At first glance, the Kii Seven looks like an ordinary speaker, but something unique lies under the hood… Come to DAE in Veldhoven on October 4 and 5 and get to know the new standard in smart audio. You may have already spotted a prototype on the previous edition, now you can hear it at work!
It took longer than expected before I could welcome the Kii Seven monitors to my listening room. More on that in a soon, the most important thing was that they just stood there in the end, and that they not only fully lived up to my now seas-high expectations but even exceeded them…
“…the overwhelming majority of recorded music is above 40Hz, and the Kii will always guarantee a sound radiated only from the front, significantly reducing the need for expensive and sometimes difficult acoustic treatments…”
“If you want to take this even further, you add the two BXT extensions to the Kii THREEs. They pile on an additional 16 woofers (YES SIXTEEN!) and an additional 7000 Watts (per pair) to what the Kii THREE already bring, increasing the bass response, SPL, and spatiality of the Kii THREEs.”
Rarely has a speaker system been met with such a range of astonished reactions as the Kii Seven speakers – from “What cuties!” to “You’re not telling me that this rock-solid, deep bass comes from these tiny cabinets; where did you hide the subwoofer?”
From time to time over the years, manufacturers have emerged that offered active loudspeakers in their lineup, and in recent years, advances in digital technology have led to major strides in active designs. How far has development come today, and might it be time for active loudspeakers to make a serious entrance into the home theater world?
We take a look at what can be considered the state of the art today and test how the Kii Three, paired with the BXT bass modules, performs.
Combined Expertise
Our sister magazine, Hifi & Musik, previously tested the Kii Three (without the BXT modules) and gave it very high marks. In fact, the Kii Three is now used in many music studios around the world, and after this test, I fully understand why.
Kii is a relatively new company, founded in 2014, yet the collective knowledge within the firm—particularly in Class-D amplification and digital technology—represents many years of combined experience. On and off over the years, Bruno Putzeys, who is responsible for, among other things, the UcD and Ncore Class-D amplifiers that have made a significant impact in the high-end segment, has been one of the founders. Together with Bart van der Laan’s expertise in embedded software and digital signal processing, they have made great technical leaps in a short period.
Add to this deep proficiency in professional audio—several employees have a background as musicians—and it’s clear that the focus has primarily been on the pro market. At the same time, there is also significant interest in the hi-fi world.
Kii Three + BXT
The Kii Three was introduced to the Swedish market a few years ago, and in 2024, an updated version was released featuring completely new Class-D amplifiers from Purifi. That is the model we are testing here.
We unpack the beautifully designed Kii Three speakers, which feel remarkably heavy when lifting them out of their packaging. Each weighs about 15 kg, and if you add the BXT module with its stand, that’s another 36 kg. Considering all electronics are built into the speaker, the construction can still be viewed as “light.” The build quality feels consistently high throughout—from the connectors to the finish of the cabinets, which in this test version are painted in a graphite gray color. It projects a discreet yet exclusive impression, as one would expect when dealing with equipment in the 400,000 SEK range.
I still vividly remember a truly remarkable encounter at the former Keusgen Recording Studio, now operated as Haldern Studio by Matthias Höfken, in the fall of 2016. Tom Jansen, Head of Product Management at Kii Audio, had brought along the brand-new Kii Three studio monitor for a listening test.
About a year earlier, Christian Reichardt and his team had founded Kii Audio with the ambition and goal of developing a new generation of speakers—compact, innovative, modern, and transparent.
A key part of the innovation was designing a speaker with a cardioid-shaped directional dispersion pattern extending down to low frequencies, significantly reducing the influence of the room.
Since the Kii Three was intended to be a hybrid, equally suited for audiophile home entertainment and professional studio use, both user groups could benefit from its unique properties in different ways:
For home users, it optimized the acoustic conditions of the room, ensuring an exceptional listening experience.
For studio professionals, it provided the advantage of a compact, freestanding monitor that sounded like a large, wall-mounted system—delivering precise and neutral sound reproduction in any setting.
Elevate your home audio experience to extraordinary heights. Whether you’re enjoying your favorite playlist or immersing yourself in a cinematic masterpiece, this system delivers unmatched clarity, rich bandwidth, and incredibly low distortion. With its cardioid precision, you’ll hear pure sound—just the way it was meant to be—without interference from your room. Experience stunning stereo imaging that brings music to life and delivers movie audio so vivid, you’ll feel like you’re part of the action. Your home deserves this level of perfection!
After the explosive launch of the DSP-controlled active speaker Kii Three and its bass extension BXT, the Dutch-German company followed up with the Kii Seven.
Smaller, but equipped with the same great technology.
The Kii Three BXT comes frighteningly close to the sound that artists and mastering engineers had in mind. Their cardioid radiation produces a sound that is virtually unadulterated by the room and brings out every detail.
